The park has gone through several transformations from a sheep ranch to a climbing mecca to a world class hiking destination. The lakes, rivers, glacial fields, and geological spires create majestic views and a sophisticated set of trails allows hikers access to this array of scenery.

The park is connected to an array of other protected areas in Argentina and Chile that conserve similar landscapes.
